NEVER use felt again
Why would anyone use felt on their flat roof when there are a range of far superior products out there to choose from. At Envirotech we invest in the latest products to give your flat roof a new lease of life. GRP (Glass Fibre Polyester) will outlast felt by many times and will guarantee no leaks and damage to the inside of your property. Dont wait for your felt roof to fail. Replace it NOW and save yourself the trouble of repairing the internal dmage that it can cause if you leave it too late. The cost of a GRP roof is roughly 30% - 50% more than the cost of a felt installation but will outlast it by 10 times. Why keep replacing a roof every 10 years or so costing you time, money and internal damage if it fails. Do the job ONCE. Do it in GRP.
Glass Fibre Polyester Roofs (GRP)
GRP has been used for decades as a manufacturing product for yachts, boats, canoes, kayakes, car body panels, water features, ponds and many other things besides. The one thing these products all have in common: they are all 100% waterproof. Envirotech use the very latest resins and hardeners to construct your new flat roof on site from scratch. Just like many of the products listed, roofs can be of awkward sizes and shapes and many will have details that need to be formed around. The very nature of GRP allows us to form a bespoke roof on to your existing structure without having to worry about any obstacles in our way. With no joints or seams to fail it is like making a very shallow swimming pool on your roof that is 100% watertight yet looks great as well.
The Process
The first stage is to remove the existing membrane on your roof whether that be felt or rubber and for us to expose the roof sheets below for assesment. On most roofs we can leave the existing boards in place and work over them however this is not always the case. If the felt is in reasonable condition this too can sometimes be left in situ to act as a vapour barrier and saving you time and the cost of skips. We will keep you informed at this stage as to which option is best for you.
In some instances the falls (direction of water to the guttering) is not adequate and we need to address this by making alterations to the structure. This is achieved by installing furings to the areas that do not run properly as seen in the photo. This project required a central gulley to be formed to drive the water off the two sides of the roof and away from the rear where the conservatory was build.
Once the falls of the roof are completed we then overboard the whole structure using ONLY OSB 3 tongue and groove roofing sheets that are installed with staggered joints. This allows us to give maximum strength to your new roof without the chance of any joints ever failing. This also allows the roof to be a usable area where you can freely walk or store things. We can even coat the roof will slip resistant products for you if the area is to be used regularly such as a balcony.
The perimiter of the roof is now fitted with pre-formed GRP edging details that come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are stapled to the roof and then strengthened with a GRP matting wherever they join. This example shows how a wall detail is finished with a GRP wall fillet (light grey section) and a seperate GRP wall flashing detail chased in to the brickwork. This method of installation guarantess you a waterproof roof with no joins or seams to fails. You cant do THAT with rubber or felt.
The top coat can now be applied. This waxy resin will aid the flow of water from the roof to your gutters and will also act as a UV stabiliser reflecting the heat of the sun away from the roof. Available in any colour you choose this top coat completes the job and makes your roof look fantastic. You can now simply forget about your roof as this will be the ONLY time you ever replace it again. Our suppliers and manufacturers installed their first GRP 51 years ago and it still performs the same today as it did back then.Call us for a free site survey and quote to see what a GRP roof will cost you.
